NRM Australia Day Winners

For the second year running, Esperance Regional Forum has sponsored the Natural Resource Management (NRM) Awards in conjunction with the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Awards.

Esperance Regional Forum, ERF, is a community run non-profit group which aims to facilitate the sustainability of our local natural resources. The Esperance NRM Awards are conducted to recognise and acknowledge the contribution of a community organisation, group or individual who by their joint or personal efforts and example have made significant contributions to natural resource management in the Esperance region.

The awards were presented as part of the Australia Day celebrations held at Adventureland Park on Australia Day by Esperance Regional Forum committee member Miss Serena Shaddick.  The winner of the Community NRM Person of the Year 2011 were Linda and David Campbell. In her speech Serena said that Linda and David were extremely well deserving recipients of this award.  Serena went on to say that Linda and David are local farmers who have been involved in natural resource management for decades now.

They lead by example and over the years, through revegetation and tree planting, have totally transformed their properties into something quite amazing.  Linda and David built their own nursery, Linda was the Chairperson for South East Forest Foundation and along with her husband David, they were named WA Tree Farmer of the Year in 1999. That is just the tip of the iceberg however, as over the years Linda and David have been involved in and have won countless other environmental awards.  They are devoted, enthusiastic and an inspiration to us all.

The award for the Professional NRM Person of the Year 2011 went to Robyn Cail.  Serena said that Robyn had devoted her whole professional career to the betterment of our region’s natural resources.  Robyn has worked hard over the years to educate many, predominantly young students, about our local environment and the important steps we can all take to ensure it remains for many generations to come.  She is knowledgeable, but more importantly she is passionate, and she evokes wonders about our surroundings to all whom she meets.  Without Robyn our local conservational future would not look as rosy as it does today.  Well done Robyn!
