ERF supports many different activities in the Esperance region allowing opportunity for the Esperance community to access information on local NRM issues and sustainable living principles.

The Officers have initiated activities with a broad cross section of our community (including businesses, community groups, schools, sporting clubs, urban householders, lifestylers and farmers). Their aim is to raise the collective knowledge about this special part of the world and what we can each do to lessen our impact upon it.

This work may include water and energy efficiency; recycling; increasing the establishment of perennial and native plants; reducing the spread of dieback; reducing the amount of nutrient run off from the land; reducing the introduction and impact of weeds; and, managing our small land holdings.

Achievements

The 2009 ERF drove the Regional Community Engagement project that has seen great success in engaging the Esperance community. Some of the projects successes;

• Sustainable House Evening - Festival of the Wind 2009
• Great Gardens Workshop – Festival of the Wind 2009
• Red Card for Red Fox 2009
• Snapshot Water Monitoring in the Stokes Inlet Catchment
• Compact Fluorescent Globe Collection Trial
• Implemented Mediterranean fruit fly monitoring across the townsite, Gibson, Salmon Gums.
• Orchard day and pruning workshop/s.
• Permaculture workshop
• Biodiesel workshop
• Assisted school group programs monitoring the wetlands
• Green loans assessment audits coming soon!

With the change to project funding there is no longer a specific Community Engagement project however erf will continue to facilitate activities and other information opportunities for the Esperance community.
